Welcome to the 6 Steps Blog

Seems like everyone wants to learn how to make WordPress Niche Sites! I am so thrilled with the reception of my new site. However, along with many followers comes many questions - hence - the 6StepNicheSites blog! If you have questions… I have answers (or I will FIND answers!)

If you are new here, we are learning how to make small “mini-sites” using WordPress at the main part of this free tutorial site - 6StepNicheSites.com. Feel free to go take a look around - and if you have questions, or just want to join in the discussion, come on back here to the blog!

I’m glad to have y’all! (I’m from the south USA, Georgia, so pardon my accent… “y’all” means You All)

Just a quick note…

This is a LEARNING place…not a PROMOTION place. While I am always a big fan of the no-nofollow concept, I am not disabling no-follow in this blog at this time. I may look into a plug in that allows commentors links to be followed after a certain number of comments, but at this time, all comments are NO-FOLLOW.

I apologize if this keeps anyone from commenting, but I want to avoid the ‘opportunists’ and give us alla safe place to ask questions and learn.

Thank you for your understanding!

anxious to set up a niche site. Can i do a generic site, like “thegoodlife” and then have subs like… thegoodlife/dreams… thegoodllife/astrology… etc., or do i need a site for each niche??

    @ Ace

I’ve had many folks ask me about using subdomains off of a main domain name.

Google ranks web PAGES, not web SITES as a whole, so I am sure that niche pages on a subdomain would do fine.

Personally, I have not built niche sites using subdomains (each gets its own unique domain name). The main two reasons I get new domain names is

    1) I am trying to build a network of sites
    2) Someday, I may decide to sell one niche site, or ten, or all. I wouldn’t be able to sell just a subdomain…I’d have to sell the whole domain.

However, this is simply my personal preference.

About.com is a great example of site that does very well using subdomains.

    For example:
    http://marketing.about.com/

    Hope that helps!

Not sure if this is a relevant question but, do you know where I can get some royalty free photos that I can use on my lenses? I’ve already been to the one lens on squidoo. Are the pictures on Webshots royalty free pictures?

For Kurt and any others looking for photos and illustrations. Check out my new lens on use of Wikipedia Commons materials at http://www.squidoo.com/wikimedia_commons

Thanks to PotPieGirl for this niche site.
